Aftermath of a Workplace Accident

Fort McMurray - 24th  Jan. 2008

A courtroom demonstration of chronic safety errors made by people and companies

This seminar was presented in Edmonton on April 24th and Banff on April 26th and due to popular demand, we have added a Fort McMurray date.

This extraordinary full-day seminar features a courtroom demonstration by a real judge, prosecutor and defense lawyer, demonstrating the inner workings of an OHS trial.

In the morning, we will present chronic due diligence failures to guard against post-accident duties and oversights, costly investigative errors, dealing with the media, how a certificate of recognition can help or harm your organization, and what to keep in mind if you ever have to testify in court.

In the afternoon, we will present a hypothetical case demonstrating important lessons fromĘthe morning session with a live, unscripted demonstration of the lesson, just as it might happen in reality.

CSSE Fort McMurray Annual Membership Appreciation

&

Membership Drive

Held on January 29, 2007 at the Sawridge Inn & Convention Centre

Was a GREAT Success!

Guest Speaker:

Charlie Morecraft. An ordinary guy with an extraordinary story!

In 1980, Charles T. Morecraft was an employee of Exxon Corporation. He was a good employee, both in the eyes of his union and in the eyes of his management, but otherwise he was unremarkable. He was just like hundreds of thousands of other blue-collar workers. He never considered himself exceptional. He was "just one of the boys".

Charlie had more than 15 years experience on the job, and he knew it well. He knew all the rules. He knew all the safety regulations, and he knew all the shortcuts around them too. Yes, Charlie was just like all the other seasoned workers at the refinery; he was certain that nothing could go wrong when he was in control. And he was right — except for this one time.

His primary messages are "Safety is about going home at the end of the day, kissing your wife and hugging your kids", and "We are each responsible for our own safety". They aren't new messages, but Charlie gives us a powerful new way of looking at them.

Visit the Photo Gallery for this event.
